Screen is getting scrambled in word documents! - Microsoft Community: Try to disable hardware acceleration: File->Options->Advanced, scroll down to the section Display and Place a check mark in the box for Disable hardware graphics acceleration.
This usually solves graphics issues in Office, and on a new, fast computer you'll likely not notice any difference in performance.
